Dr. Lawrence S. Brown is a life-long numismatist. He traces his fascination with coins back to his adolescence in Brooklyn, New York, where he found himself stimulated by the various ways in which history could be captured on such a small canvas.

Dr. Brown serves as Associate Physician at the Rockefeller University Hospital and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Healthcare Policy and Research, Weill Medical College, Cornell University. He is Chief Executive Officer at START Treatment & Recovery Centers in Brooklyn, New York, overseeing medical and behavioral health care to over 2,800 adults and 300 adolescents, as well as the conduct of behavioral and biomedical research.

He received a Bachelor of Arts at Brooklyn College and a combined M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine and Master’s in Public Health from the Columbia University School of Public Health. He completed an internal medicine residency at Harlem Hospital and a neuroendocrinology fellowship at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Brown served as a member of the Drug Testing Advisory Board of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and on advisory committees of the Food and Drug Administration and various boards of the National Institutes of Health. He is currently a member of New York State’s Public Health and Health Planning Council and the Behavioral Health Services Advisory Council. Dr. Brown is an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran and received a Bronze Star for meritorious service in the Republic of Vietnam.
